A downed power line set a vehicle ablaze Sunday at 4:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Cordova Road, said Frank Guzman, spokesman for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
Because the line was live, fire officials had Florida Power & Light shut down the power grid in the area while firefighters extinguished the fire, Guzman said.
A power line may not be sparking or buzzing, but can still be dangerous and carrying a lethal charge.
It was unclear Sunday how many homeowners were affected by the forced power outage.
