Two dead, two injured in crash caused by other drivers possibly street racing, police say

Two motorcyclists were killed and two others injured after they were struck by other vehicles that police suspect were involved in street-racing in Davie early Sunday.

The Davie Police Department responded after midnight Sunday to reports of a major collision near the 3400 block of State Road 7, just south of the Interstate 595 on-ramp.

Investigators say three or four vehicles were spotted racing northbound when they crashed into two motorcycles carrying four riders.

First responders pronounced two riders dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The drivers of the racing vehicles fled the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.

Officers shut down the northbound lanes of State Road 7 around 1 a.m. as crews cleared the scene, and later reopened the roadway around 5:45 a.m.

Davie is withholding the identities of the deceased until police can notify next of kin.
