Best sushi in South Florida? It’s time to vote for the winner!

South Florida sushi fans aren’t shy about letting us know what keeps them coming back for more at their favorite spots.

Earlier this month, we asked readers to nominate the best sushi maker in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties for the next installment in our Best of South Florida Dining series. Regardless of their precise picks, one thing was clear: At the top of their must-have lists are places with fresh fish, beautiful presentation, and unique and innovative creations.

With the nomination round now closed, we’ve counted the submissions and can announce that the top five finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

What sushi fans say

Davie resident Mindy Pheterson likes to pick up a bento box lunch at Cilantro Asian Bistro.

“Their sushi is fresh, their portions are huge, the prices are reasonable, and the employees are friendly and efficient,” she wrote in her nomination form. “Everything is delicious, and there is enough food for lunch and dinner.”

For Pompano Beach resident Bruce VanDerMeulen, Ichiyami’s buffet is a draw because it has the “best selection of fresh, all-you-can-eat sushi, sushi rolls, sashimi, crab legs and oysters.”

He added: “Been going here for years and always a great experience!”

Meanwhile, Coconut Creek resident Susan Stone praised Kaizen for its “always fresh, exquisitely plated and delicious” food.

“Chef-owner Qui Lam takes pride in his creative dishes and omakase, and the prices are fantastic,” she wrote. “They’re small, but well worth the wait.”

Leia Bosco, of Fort Lauderdale, called S3’s sushi “next level” in her nomination form. “The Surf and Turf roll is a must try!” she wrote. “And the omakase boxes are perfect for sharing.”

For her part, Fort Lauderdale resident Barbra Stern said she likes grabbing some sushi late night at Sushi Song.

“So fresh and they have very unique rolls,” she wrote. “Sushi Song all night long!”
