Lawsuits against insurers declined again this year. Will this year’s hurricanes reverse the trend?

The number of lawsuits filed against Florida insurers declined for the fourth straight year over the first nine months of 2024, falling to about 27,900 from a high of 67,800 in 2021. Insurers attribute the declines to reforms enacted in 2022, but plaintiffs attorneys say policyholders paid for them with restrictions of their rights to dispute poor claim handling.
