Man who tried to force way into woman’s car shot and killed by witness, deputies say

A man who deputies said tried to force his way into a woman’s car Sunday afternoon in Pompano Beach was shot and killed by a witness who intervened, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Brian Semil, 37, of Pompano Beach, was shot in the parking lot of a RaceTrac gas station in the 500 block of West Atlantic Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m., where there had been a “disturbance,” the Sheriff’s Office said. Semil was pronounced dead at Broward Health North.

The Sheriff’s Office said Semil tried to force himself into a car with a woman and her children inside, and three men intervened. During that altercation, one of the men shot Semil.

The three men who intervened remained at the scene and cooperated with deputies, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Sheriff’s Office will forward its case after investigating to the State Attorney’s Office.
