Months after a robbery attempt in Lauderdale Lakes turned into a 16-year-old boy being shot to death, three teenagers have been arrested on charges related to the robbery, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Just after 8:30 p.m. on May 20, Amari Dreakford, 16, and a 15-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released, were found shot in the 4000 block of Northwest 30th Terrace, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday. Dreakford was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. The 15-year-old boy was not seriously injured.
Clovenson Alexandre, 18, of Fort Lauderdale, and two 16-year-old boys whose identities have not been released were arrested last week on charges stemming from the events before Dreakford’s death, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Alexandre, Dreakford and the two 16-year-old boys were together before the shooting. Alexandre drove Dreakford and the two other teens to the area that evening because Dreakford planned to sell a gun to a 15-year-old boy there, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Dreakford allegedly tried to rob the 15-year-old at gunpoint during the sale. A friend of the 15-year-old boy was waiting in the area and saw a struggle begin between his friend and Dreakford, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The 15-year-old’s friend then shot Dreakford. It was not clear who shot the 15-year-old boy.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of any of the teens involved other than Alexandre and Dreakford. Their names are also redacted in the warrant for Alexandre’s arrest.

Alexandre was Instagram messaging with two people the day before and of the shooting, discussing committing robberies, according to the warrant. Messages showed Alexandre posted a gun for sale on his Instagram and was texting the group about the robbery-turned-shooting after it happened.
Alexandre is held in the Joseph V. Conte Facility as of Tuesday afternoon on one count of wearing a mask while committing a third-degree felony, court and jail records show. Attorney information was not available.
It was not known what charges the 16-year-old boys are facing or if the 15-year-old boy’s friend who allegedly shot Dreakford is facing charges.
“At this time, all suspects involved in the homicide have been identified and investigators are working with the Broward State Attorney’s Office for any potential prosecution,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
