Woman, 4-year-old girl killed in shooting on Florida’s Turnpike in Hollywood

A woman and a 4-year-old girl are dead after a shooting late Friday night on Florida’s Turnpike in Hollywood, deputies say.

Just before midnight, Florida Highway Patrol informed the Broward Sheriff’s Office that they had responded to a shooting in the northbound lanes of the highway near Mile Marker 49, south of the Hollywood Boulevard exit, Claudinne Caro-Guaraldi, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said in an email.

When troopers arrived, they found a woman and a girl inside of a car, both with gunshot wounds. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Hollywood Fire Rescue took the woman to the hospital, where she died.

The Sheriff’s Office did not say what led to the shooting or provide any information about potential suspects.
