A man wanted in a Broward carjacking barricaded himself on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade after a cross-county police chase early Tuesday morning, deputies say, shutting down the highway for hours.
The series of events began before midnight Monday, when deputies responded to an armed robbery in the 2700 block of South State Road 7 in West Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a media release. There, a woman told them that a man she knew had carjacked her at gunpoint.
The Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO, or Be-On-The-Lookout, for the car he had taken, later locating it “through investigative means,” according to the news release. Both BSO deputies and Miami-Dade Police pursued the car through Broward and Miami-Dade.
Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, the man crashed the car on the off-ramp of the southbound lanes of I-95 at Miami Gardens Drive and barricaded himself inside, the release states.
The situation continued into 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, shutting down the southbound lanes of I-95 at Ives Dairy Road. Three hours later, about 9:40 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office announced that the man was in custody and the road had reopened.
