OAKLAND PARK — A shooting near a video shoot left one person dead and another injured Thursday night, authorities say.
In the hours after the shooting, the rapper Sexyy Red wrote on Instagram that she was filming a music video across from a shooting in Broward, but the shooting was not related to her.
A little before 8 p.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a shooting in the 3100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard in Oakland Park, according to a media release.
Deputies found two people with gunshot wounds, the release said. One was pronounced dead on scene, and the other was taken to a local hospital.
The shooting occurred “near a video shoot being filmed in the area,” the release said, and detectives are trying to determine if the two are related.
Sexyy Red, a well-known rapper from St. Louis, Miss., said in a statement on Instagram Thursday night that she was filming a video near a shooting at a gas station, and that BSO and Florida Highway Patrol responded, but the shooting was not related to her.
“I send my condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and prayers up for the person who was wounded,” she wrote. “But I gotta address the rumors that it happened at my video shoot.”
She added that BSO and FHP confirmed the shooting was not on her set. Her team finished filming at a different location and hired off-duty BSO deputies to “make sure everyone was safe,” she said.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Homicide Units are actively investigating the shooting, the release said. Anyone with information should contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
