Even a global star like Maluma wants in on the Lionel Messi phenomenon — the Colombian rapper on Thursday dropped a new video for his song “Trofeo” that includes a meeting with Messi on the pitch at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
In the video, a duet with Puerto Rican reggaeton star Yandel, Maluma adopts his typical tough-guy swagger to impress a dream girl who has a taste for designer labels and the finer things in life. Unsure if he has enough to win her over, at the end of the reel Maluma reminds himself that he has access to the ultimate luxury item: He knows Lionel Messi.
Wearing Messi’s pink No. 10 Inter Miami jersey, Maluma strides onto the field at DRV PNK Stadium, deserted until Messi appears in his black Inter jersey holding a silver “trofeo.” With a handshake and a hug, Messi hands Maluma the trophy, which the rapper caresses as he sings and sways in the center of the field.
As credits roll, Maluma dedicates the video to Messi, “the greatest of all.”
The North American leg of Maluma’s Don Juan World Tour kicks off on Aug. 31 and concludes on Nov. 4 at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Tickets start at $61+ at Ticketmaster.com.
The tour supports Maluma’s new album “Don Juan,” set for release on Friday. For more information on the album and the tour, visit Maluma.Online.
Inter Miami face the New York Red Bulls in New York on Saturday, followed by Messi’s home MLS debut at DRV PNK Stadium against Nashville on Aug. 30. The game appears to be sold out, but check official resale options at InterMiamiCF.com.
