Man drowned pit bull in pool during fight with family, police say

A Pembroke Pines man paused during an argument with his family to take the pet pit bull out into the pool and drown it, police said, then went back and told them what he’d done.

Corey Vaughn Dacres, 25, was arrested Sunday on one felony count of aggravated animal cruelty. He remained in the Broward Main Jail on Monday.

Dacres left the apartment in the Advenir at San Tropez complex in the area of Northwest 78th Terrace and Northwest First Street shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday with the female pit bull terrier, a 6-year-old named Unity, Pembroke Pines Police said in a news release.

He threw Unity over the 5-foot-tall fence at the complex’s pool, jumped the fence and “willfully and maliciously drowned the dog,” police said.

He went back to the apartment and told his family. Officers found Unity at the bottom of the pool, the police department said.

Additional details were not immediately available Monday afternoon.
