A body was found next to a vehicle on Interstate 95 shortly after midnight Thursday morning, shutting down a portion of the highway for several hours overnight. The cause of death is under investigation.
About 12:15 a.m., a caller reported a body next to a vehicle on I-95 near Oakland Park Boulevard. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene, where they met with Florida Highway Patrol.

All southbound lanes of the highway beyond the Oakland Park Boulevard exit closed for over four hours, reopening about 5 a.m. Thursday.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is now investigating the death “at the request of FHP,” Carey Codd, a spokesperson for the office, said in an email.

The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
