Five Sharks Named SSC Athletes of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 26 – Oct. 9, on Monday afternoon. Nova Southeastern Sharks student-athletes Jordan Chessar (Volleyball), Stefane Rosa (Women’s Soccer), Emily Trieschmann (Women’s Swimming), Kamila Soja (Women’s Cross Country), and Will O’Neill (Men’s Golf) earned honors following their performances over the weekend. 

Nova Southeastern Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week awards are presented by Courtyard Marriot.

Chessar, receiving the honor for the first time in her career, was an absolute force on defense. Chessar receives Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording 7 digs and 20 total blocks, helping her team to a 2-1 record for the week. Chessar also recorded a career-high 10 blocks in the Shark’s victory against Rollins.
 
Rosa, earning her second Player of the Week honor this year, was a recipient of the Defensive Player of the Week award. Rosa did it all defensively for the Lady Sharks. Tallying an impressive 13 saves across two games, she had five saves in a tie with Embry-Riddle and eight in a dominant 3-0 win against Rollins. Bringing her clean sheet to a total of four games this year.

Trieschmann, earned her first Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Week, she was sensational in the water. On the first day of the Shark Invitational, she won the 500 Freestyle, by nearly five seconds, recording a time of 4:55.50. Trieschmann wasn’t done yet following up her stellar performance with another exceptional outing, finishing first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:17.68. Giving her two victories over the course of two days.

Soja, earned her second Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week, lighting the grass up this past weekend. She finished third at the Florida Atlantic Home Invitational on Friday against a quality field including several Sunshine State Conference opponents (Lynn, Palm Beach Atlantic, and St. Thomas). Her 5K time of 18:30.50 is the fourth-fastest time in program history. Her performance helped lead the Lady Sharks to a second-place finish. 
 
O’Neill, also earning his first Golfer of the Week honors, had a phenomenal outing at the Sharks Invitational. Following an incredible -8 in the second round on Monday, O’Neill sat atop the leaderboard heading into the final round. He clinched the victory in a two-hole playoff against Ian Aldaronda (Embry-Riddle). O’Neill looks to pick up where he left off at the Copperhead Championship on Monday, Oct.,17.
