Mayhew said she is advising facility operators to “focus on containment,” but also prepare for reaction. “We are trying to make sure the nursing homes, hospitals and public health departments are talking regularly,” she said. Mayhew said she is building a statewide, real-time inventory of hospital beds and negative pressure rooms “so if a nursing home needs to transfer someone, we can provide information to the Department of Health about bed availability.”
