DeSantis and Republican legislators are trying to secure passage of two bills (SB 1450/HB 1091) that would increase fines for sewage spills. The current penalty, $10,000 per occurrence, would increase to $15,000 and could be imposed over a much longer period of time, to also include the period “until a violation is resolved by order or judgment, each day during any portion of which such violation occurs or is not remediated.”
