Sen. Bobby Powell, D-West Palm Beach, would ban possession of guns within 1,500 feet of a school, church, public building or beach (SB 634). Other Democrat-backed bills would require background checks on ammunition buyers and require every gun sale to go through licensed dealers, which requires a three-day waiting period — in other words, a ban on private gun sales, an idea this legislature won’t support.
