Broward schools were open on Feb. 14 last year, while Stoneman Douglas opened for only a half-day. The school offered a morning of wellness activities on that day, including manicures, massages, cooking demonstrations, therapy dogs and counseling. Those who decided not to come to school were not marked absent, and the same will be true for the half-day in the coming years, Chisem said.
