“It’s out of character for him,” said Junior Dennis, 59, of Fort Lauderdale, a best friend of Pearce’s mother, the late Janet Burnett, a Democrat activist in Sunrise. Burnett died at 64 last year after a long fight with cancer and neuroendocrine disease. Pearce, her son, lived with her in the family home in Sunrise.
