An airliner carrying 136 passengers and seven crew skidded off the runway in Jacksonville on Friday night and went into the St. Johns River.
The accident at the Naval Air Station happened about 9:40 p.m.
The plane was a Boeing 737 arriving from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, according to the Florida Times-Union, which added that the plane was a Department of Defense-contracted flight.
Authorities said everyone survived, and that there were only two minor injuries. Rescue crews were searching for two dogs and a cat.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry confirmed that everyone was alive and accounted for and firefighters were working to control the jet fuel in the water. He said he was being briefed by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue and that he had received a call from the White House.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Miami Air plane was in shallow water and wasn’t submerged.
Miami Air operates out of Miami International Airport.
