There are some big-time events in South Florida this weekend but unfortunately the forecast says there’s a good chance of rain for the next couple of days.
If you have tickets to SunFest, the big music festival which began Thursday and runs through Sunday in West Palm Beach, or the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, which happens Saturday and Sunday, here are some things to keep in mind if it does rain.
Air show:
According to the air show’s website, bad weather is something that could result in the cancellation or suspension of the event. Tickets are non-refundable, but if the show is canceled on Saturday because of weather, tickets will be honored on Sunday. If it’s canceled on Sunday or for the entire weekend, “tickets will be refunded or honored at the 2020 event.”
SunFest:
They call it SunFest but they could also accurately call it SunOrRainFest. “SunFest goes on rain or shine,” the festival’s website says. “SunFest does not refund or exchange tickets due to inclement weather.” So if the forecast is calling for rain, festival organizers say, bring rain gear and umbrellas.
So what is this weekend’s rain forecast?
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, mainly after 3 p.m. Otherwise it will be partly sunny with a high near 85.
Saturday’s rain chance goes down to 30 percent but the chance of storm ticks up on Sunday to 50 percent.
It’s all thanks to an area of showers and storms moving from the northwestern Bahamas toward Florida over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the disturbance and has given it a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone after it moves off of Florida and northeast into the Atlantic Ocean.
