As officers chased a black pickup along streets in Pembroke Pines Tuesday, the truck struck an unmarked police car before it crashed along an Interstate 95 exit ramp, according to police and helicopter news video.
“Our officers were following a stolen vehicle,” said Pembroke Pines police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell. “The suspect intentionally hit one of our police vehicles.”
Conwell said the officer was not harmed.
The 10 minute pursuit began about 10:15 a.m. and happened near Arcadia Drive and Pembroke Road, Conwell said.
Video from WSVN-Ch. 7 showed the pickup on the southbound I-95 exit ramp for Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
The truck had crashed into a fence and was on its left side.
Firefighters could be seen using a power tool to open the truck’s cab before pulling an injured man through the rear window and onto a stretcher. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
Conwell said she didn’t yet have information on the man who was in police custody or the charges he may face.
The Hallandale Beach Boulevard southbound exit from I-95 remained closed to traffic for more than an hour after the incident.
