Southbound lanes of Imterstate 95 in Deerfield Beach are open after being closed for more than five hours due to a severe crash between Sample Road and Southwest 10th Street that left two small children with life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened just after 11 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. Battalion Chief Michael Kane described the two girls’ injuries as “very grave.”
One of the vehicles was driven by a male who had minor injuries that didn’t require hospitalization.
In the other vehicle were three people — a woman and two young girls. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening. They were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
One was flown by air, the other transported by ground. Firefighters worked aggressively to stabilize their conditions.
Traffic cameras showed that all southbound traffic was being diverted off the exit ramp on to Southwest 10th Street.
