Two northbound lanes on Florida’s Turnpike were closed after an SUV caught fire on the shoulder Friday afternoon, Lauderhill fire officials said.
Firefighters from Lauderhill and Tamarac quickly extinguished the fire between Sunrise and Oakland Park boulevards, according to the state Department of Transportation
Traffic seemed to be flowing again, the fire was out and was getting loaded onto a flatbed by about 3 p.m., according to a photo on the department’s website.
The fire erupted about 2:30 p.m., according to a tweet and a photo posted by Lauderhill Fire Rescue.
One photo showed a huge plume of black smoke rising from the vehicle. Another showed an SUV fully engulfed in bright orange flames.
No one appeared to be injured.
