Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High will be able to dance the night away in style when they attend a $150,000 prom complete with a live concert.
This year’s prom is scheduled for May 11 at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, the same location as last year. But this one promises to be more over-the-top, with a recording artist or band performing, courtesy of Hollister, a clothing line popular with teens. The musical guest hasn’t yet been named.
To help make this year’s event extra special, some students, parents, teachers, alumni and supporters entered Stoneman Douglas in a nationwide contest for what Hollister dubbed as “the most insane prom.” Anyone could go to a Hollister website to vote for the school they most wanted to win. The link was shared numerous times on sites such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to a great party, students will get a gift bag with a selection of products by Abercrombie and Fitch, which is owned by Hollister. Stoneman Douglas will also receive a $5,000 donation from Hollister for its music and arts programs. But students needn’t worry about product placements everywhere.
“It’s the students’ prom. We do not have plans to brand the event nor capture or share content for advertising or marketing purposes,” said a Hollister spokesperson, who declined to be identified.
Students still must buy tickets, but the price has dropped from $130 to $73.
Students don’t know to expect, but they are excited, said Rebecca Schneid, a senior at the school.
