A person was struck and killed by a Virgin Trains USA passenger train on the Florida East Coast railroad tracks in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
It happened about 12:30 p.m. at 1800 S. Dixie Highway, near Cypress Creek Road, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Joy Oglesby.
“Regional Communications received a call that a pedestrian was struck by a Brightline/Virgin Trains USA,” she said. “Oakland Park deputies are assisting.”
Some roads may be closed near the scene during the investigation and drivers were being advised to avoid the area.
No other information was immediately available.
In an announcement late last month, British billionaire and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson presided in South Florida in the Brightline train system’s formal rebranding as Virgin Trains USA.
