A Pembroke Pines man was driving drunk when he caused the crash in Davie that threw a cyclist more than 150 feet — killing him, police said.
The crash also overturned a pickup truck, sending its driver to a hospital.
Ismael Quiles III, 33, is charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and reckless driving in connection with the death of cyclist Paul Bramer, 48, and the injuring of pickup driver Steven Poyner, 53, both of Davie.
The crash happened about 8:20 p.m. Sept. 21, as Quiles was driving a 2015 Dodge Dart about 61 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 4200 block of Davie Road, according to a Davie police arrest report.
He struck Bramer’s bicycle from behind before rear-ending a white 2002 Ford Ranger pickup, causing it to roll over and injure Poyner who was driving, investigators said.
Bramer — who was riding a bike in the far right lane where there was no designated bicycle lane — hit the windshield and roof of the Dart before being thrown more than 170 feet down the roadway, the arrest report said.
Bramer died at the scene. Quiles and Poyner were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, police said.
Tests later revealed Quiles had a blood alcohol level of .16, double the legal limit of .08, and cocaine in his system, investigators said.
At Quiles’ first court appearance Wednesday, Broward Judge Jackie Powell set bonds totaling $154,700.
