Drivers with unpaid traffic tickets, court costs, fees or fines, will get the chance to reduce their debt and possibly restore their driving privileges as the Broward County Clerk of Courts launches Operation Green Light the week of March 11-16.
Anyone convicted of felonies, misdemeanors or traffic infractions, with costs that were sent to a collection agency for nonpayment, can make good on their debt and save up to 35 percent in collection agency fees during the week-long amnesty period.
However, the statutory late fee that was added to their original debt, after 30 days of nonpayment, remains in place.
The offer is good no matter how long the debt has been outstanding, but the balance must be paid in full to take advantage of the savings.
People can pay with cash, personal checks, cashier checks, money orders, and Master Card or VISA credit cards.
Payments can be made at all four Broward courthouses Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, only the Central Courthouse will be open for business from 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Fines and fees for felonies can be paid only at the Central Courthouse, located at 201 S.E. Sixth Street, room 160, in Fort Lauderdale.
Payments for misdemeanors will be accepted at all locations, including the North Satellite Courthouse at 1600 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach; the West Satellite Courthouse at 100 N. Pine Island Rd., Plantation; the South Satellite Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood.
Payments also can be made through the Clerk’s website at browardclerk.org, and the U.S. Postal Service but it must be postmarked by March 16.
For more information, call the Clerk’s office at 954-831-6565.
