“In a suburban area, or a wealthy area, where the large majority of the population has access to a car, a 2-mile travel distance would be very manageable,” Dean said. “But in urban areas, a 2-mile distance to the nearest vaccine site might be very difficult for residents, especially lower-income residents, if the site is not easily accessible by public transit. We might consider a 1-mile travel distance optimal.”
