Two teen girls were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon after a personal watercraft they were riding on crashed in the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale, fire rescue officials say.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., witnesses called 911 to report a crash involving two personal watercrafts in the Intracoastal near the 2800 block of Northeast 24th Court, Frank Guzman, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, said.
The two girls were riding together on one of the water vehicles, Guzman said. They were both taken to Broward Health Medical Center.
“It’s hard to say at this time exactly how the crash occurred,” Guzman said.
Fort Lauderdale Police were at the scene late Tuesday afternoon. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be leading the investigation, Guzman said.
