Watch live: Defense opens its case in the Parkland school shooting trial

The defense will begin presenting its case in the sentencing trial of Nikolas Cruz, the gunman who killed 17 students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14, 2018.J

Defense lawyers will begin with their opening statement on Monday after deferred them until after the prosecution rested its case.

The jury will decide if Cruz should be put to death for the murders or be sent to prison for the rest of his life.

There is only audio when the judge orders the court in session and proceedings are on the record.
