Due to tariffs, little U.S. girls may only be allotted a couple dolls each this Christmas.
“Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls,” President Trump shrugged recently at the end of a Cabinet meeting.
Shouldn’t male children be considered in doll allotments? When boys become fathers in Florida (and get divorced), they automatically are awarded 50-50 custody and time sharing with their children, regardless of their readiness or desire for parenthood.
Boys, too, require parental preparation with dolls. Unfortunately, only girl dolls are currently available from Amazon (G.I. Joe dolls are not included).
In the 1970s, when my kids were young, there was a “Joey Stivic” toddler doll, the grandchild of TV’s Archie Bunker. Joey was anatomically correct as assigned at birth.
Dolls may still be a suitable gift, but it might also be advisable to consider other options, such as books, which of course can be approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis for their content.

On birthright citizenship
I disagreed with the Sun Sentinel Viewpoint essay by Vilerka Bilbao who misinterpreted the U.S. Constitution. She wrote that the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to “All persons born or naturalized in the United States.”
The full sentence of the amendment states: “All persons born or naturalized in the United Sates, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
The illegal immigrants who violate rules of entry are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, as they have no right to be here. They broke the borders and have no rights under our Constitution. If you enter legally, you’re subject to the rules.
Let me emphasize, the U.S. was created by immigrants, and I am for all people to be welcomed here, but they must come in legally and according to our laws.
If someone is here legally and a child is born, that child is automatically a citizen, and does not have to go through the application process.
Ms. Bilbao writes that “it is about human dignity, equal protection and the future of pluralistic America.”
Yes, if you are a legal immigrant, welcome. Let’s celebrate!

(Editor’s Note: Legal experts agree that people who enter this country illegally have certain constitutional rights, as they are subject to U.S. jurisdiction. The fact that the 14th Amendment applies to chilren born in the U.S., neither of whose parents are citizens or lawful residents, has been case law since the 1898 Supreme Court decision United States v. Wong Kim Ark.)
Normalizing stealing
Is it any wonder why the Republicans focused so much collective energy against Hunter Biden while virtually ignoring anything and everything being done by Donald Trump and his family?
It’s a page from an old playbook.
When two rivals are both stealing money out of the same bank, it is incumbent on the one who is making off with billions to create a perception that he’s doing nothing different than the one who’s pilfering $500.
Once the concept of stealing is normalized, the amounts become inconsequential to those who believe that any stealing warrants the same fate.

On Biden’s decline
Isn’t it ironic reading articles on the new book about Joe Biden’s decline without any mention that it was the mainstream media that allowed Biden’s decline to remain secret to the public?
Unless you watched Fox News, most people had no knowledge of how bad it was until his infamous presidential debate between Biden and Donald Trump.
