Two men have been charged in connection with the drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale last summer that killed a 3-year-old boy, court records show.
Thaddeus Squire III, 23, of Oakland Park, is facing one count of accessory after the fact, according to prosecutors’ charging document filed on Friday. He was charged the same day a grand jury indicted Tyler Tyrone Hollins, 20, of Lauderdale Lakes, on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, court records show.
The Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed Thursday that Squire is charged in connection to the shooting of Rylo Yancy but declined to provide further details.
“Because there are ongoing criminal investigations, that is all we can say at this time,” spokesperson Paula McMahon said in an email.
Squire allegedly aided Hollins in carrying out the July 21 shooting, according to the charging document, by providing Hollins transportation to commit the shooting.
More than 20 shots were fired out of at least one car driving by Riverland Park, at 900 SW 27th Ave., that afternoon, authorities previously said. Rylo Yancy, who turned 3 in May, was struck and later died at a hospital.
Fort Lauderdale Police said Monday that Hollins was one of multiple suspects wanted in connection with the shooting and that their investigation was ongoing.
Squire was originally arrested in early October on first-degree murder charges, according to a probable cause affidavit. He posted $25,000 bond the same day. The affidavit lists the Fort Lauderdale Police headquarters as the location of the arrest but does not provide further details about the case other than Squire was wanted under a warrant.
A police department spokesperson referred to the State Attorney’s Office for questions about the case. Squire was not in the Broward County jail as of Wednesday night.
