A Miramar Police officer was arrested Wednesday on charges related to sex offenses with a minor, Broward Sheriff’s Office jail records show.
George Fredrick Richardson, 37, has been an officer with Miramar Police for three years, Chief Delrish Moss said in a statement Wednesday evening. Richardson was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office Public Corruption Unit.
Richardson was held in the Main Jail on one count of use of a child in sexual performance, one count of lewd or lascivious written solicitation of a minor who is 16 or 17 years old and one count of harmful communication with a minor, according to BSO inmate records. His bond for the three charges totals $25,000.
Moss in his statement did not provide any details about the investigation or the accusations against Richardson. Court records were not available Wednesday night.
Sheriff’s Office spokespersons did not return an email seeking additional information on the agency’s investigation.
Moss said Richardson “has been relieved of his police duties effective immediately.” Janice McIntosh, a city spokesperson, said in an email to the South Florida Sun Sentinel that Richardson is suspended without pay “until charges have been formally filed.”
“We stand committed to transparency and accountability and we are fully cooperating with BSO to ensure a thorough investigation, and a fair process for all involved,” Moss said in the statement. “At the same time, it is crucial that we extend our compassion and support to the alleged victim. We are committed to ensuring that they receive all necessary assistance during this incredibly difficult time.”
