The finalists are in for South Florida’s best BBQ spot: Vote for your favorite here!

Who cooks the best barbecue in South Florida?

We asked you, our readers, to lick the sauce off your fingers and nominate your go-to spots — whether it’s in Palm Beach, Broward or Miami-Dade counties — for the third installment in our Best of South Florida Dining series.

As it turns out, barbecue lovers are fired up about their favorites, with more than 500 nominations coming in this month. Now it’s time to vote for your choice using the form below!

The five finalists that received the most nods are, in alphabetical order:

Readers were more than happy to boast about why these locations cured their cravings for fall-off-the-bone ribs, mouthwatering brisket, tangy sauces and tender, juicy meats.

Oakland Park resident Lisa Larson made a bold statement in her nomination for Tom Jenkins: “On my last-meal list.”

Meanwhile, another fan, Calvin Lamar, makes the drive from Delray Beach to have a meal at Tom Jenkins in Fort Lauderdale.

“The meat is tender, well-seasoned with an array of tasty spices,” he wrote in his nomination form. “The smoked flavor makes the meat (so) tasty that you can smell the aroma as you bring it to your mouth.”

Joe Rubino, of Coconut Creek, nominated Mistah Lee’s food truck, saying, “Best brisket hands down. All sides are top tier. Real ribs with a good smoke and bite. They set the bar high.”

In a nomination for Lickie Stickie, a Plantation resident called the homemade barbecue sauce so “delicious I could drink it right out of the container.” (In addition to its Sunrise locations, Lickie Stickie barbecue can also be found at Plantation’s Farmers Market on Saturdays and Tamarac Farmers Market on Sundays, according to its website.)

Many readers also raved about the fixings, such as collard greens, baked beans, corn bread, coleslaw, and mac and cheese.

The corn bread at Apocalypse BBQ is “made by the hands of God,” Miami resident Miriam Romero said in her nomination form. “Their mac and cheese is to die for, and their empanadas made of brisket and cheese are next level.”

Several nominations noted how close some barbecue in South Florida comes to the regional styles of Texas, North Carolina and Memphis, for example.

“I’m from North Carolina and this is the closest I’ve ever found to real North Carolina BBQ — and I’ve looked everywhere since I moved here!” Boynton Beach resident Andrea Zupicich wrote about Pigsty. “The Dino ribs are also an amazing find here!”
