MAP: Here’s the latest forecast track of potential Tropical Storm Alex

Forecasters say a former hurricane exiting Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula could slowly reorganize as it tracks to the northeast toward South Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.

If it strengthens enough, it could form into a tropical depression or even Tropical Storm Alex, which would make it the first named Atlantic storm of the 2022 hurricane season.

But regardless of the system’s development, the forecast calls for heavy rain over South Florida and the Florida Keys Friday night into Saturday.

Although the hurricane center does not begin officially tracking a system until it’s further developed, computer models still generate possible tracks. Here’s the latest so-called “spaghetti models” showing the possible tracks generated by forecasting computers:
