Roosta Announced as Newest Sharks Athletic Trainer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Zevon Stubblefield announced on Thursday the hiring of Patrick Roosta as the newest athletic trainer for the Sharks, heading into the 2019-20 school year. Roosta began his work with the Sharks in July.

“It has been a long-time dream to work at this amazing institution, and now I cannot be more excited to finally be part of the Sharks family,” Roosta said.

Roosta joins the NSU sports medicine team after two years as the head athletic trainer at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, where he had oversight of the sports medicine operations for the Lions and served as the athletic trainer for all 10 FMU varsity teams.

Prior to his arrival at FMU, Roosta was an assistant athletic trainer at St. Thomas University, also in Miami Gardens. He provided AT coverage for five Bobcat squads and extended his role as a post-therapy and corrective exercise specialist at Ultimate Sports Institute, where he continues to work with a variety of clients ranging from youth to collegiate athletes.

Roosta has also volunteered in providing medical coverage for such events as the Miami Marathon, NASCAR Sprint Cup series and Miami Dolphins Youth Training Camp.

“I’m very proud to welcome Patrick Roosta to the Sharks family,” Stubblefield said of the hire. “In addition to his positive attitude, Patrick brings a wealth of great experience, skills and education to the position. Our NSU student-athletes are fortunate to have Patrick as their athletic trainer.”

Born in Norway and raised in Australia, Roosta has made South Florida his home for the past 14 years. He is a 2014 Sports and Fitness Studies graduate from Florida International University, going on to complete his master’s in Athletic Training at FIU in 2016 and graduating as member of the Iota Tau Alpha Athletic Training Honor Society. He is currently pursuing his doctorate of Athletic Training at FIU and is a member of the first cohort of students for their DAT Program.

While at FIU as a graduate student, he worked with the Panthers’ football, indoor and beach volleyball teams and served several other clinical sites in the Miami area.
