Sunfest in West Palm Beach, Cinco de Mayo across the region and to a lesser extent the Fort Lauderdale Air Show. They all had dicey weather in common through the weekend — especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
Across the region there were heavy downpours, street flooding and plenty of lightning and thunder.
That weather pattern continues through Monday before conditions dry out for a couple of days.
On Monday, showers and thunderstorms remain in the weather picture, especially during the afternoon hours when the atmosphere heats up. Otherwise, it will be partly sunny with a high close to 90 and light winds from the southeast, according to the National Weather Service.
“Showers and storms will once again pile up along the east coast during the afternoon and evening hours,” the weather service said in its area forecast discussion.
After some possibly heavy storms Monday night, Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 85 and only a 20 percent chance of storms, mainly during the early evening.
Wednesday appears to be the dries day of the week. It should be mostly sunny with a high near 84 and winds from the east at 6 to 13 mph. Still, given atmospheric conditions, the 20 percent rain chance remains in the forecast.
“As we are in May, it is tough to have a completely dry forecast and enough moisture remains for seasonable rain chances with scattered afternoon showers and storms,” according to the forecast discussion.
The typical season pattern returns Thursday when the rain chance kicks up to 40 percent. When it’s not stormy, it will be sunny and hot — with a high near 85.
Heading into and through the weekend, the rain chance lingers between 20 and 30 percent with no washouts in the forecast.
The early forecast for Sunday, Mother’s Day, is for mostly sunny conditions with a high near 87 and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
