A Pembroke Pines motorcyclist, who did not survive a collision with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 27, was identified Friday by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Omar Andrade, 43, died when his 2016 Suzuki GSX-R rear-ended a 2019 International semitrailer driven by Mitchell Merson, 61, of Savannah, Ga., investigators said.
It happened about 10:24 a.m. Sunday as both men were driving north in the highway’s left lane through Weston. Merson was switching to the right lane as Andrade was doing the same and they collided, officials said.
Deputies and fire rescue crews pronounced Andrade dead at the scene.
According to traffic homicide investigators, Merson’s truck was traveling at or near the posted speed limit of 65 mph but Andrade was speeding. The preliminary investigation indicates Andrade’s excessive speed was a factor in the fatal crash.
The investigation is continuing and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Broward Sheriff’s Detective Anthony Morales at 954-321-4840 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
