Like thousands of others from Canada, Marc Gagne and Rita Fortin spent many winters in South Florida — but because of a double-murder — their most recent visit would be their last.
As the homicides of the Canadian couple remain unsolved, Broward Crime Stoppers, Tuesday, offered up to $3,000 for information leading detectives to whomever killed Gagne, 80, and Fortin, 78, in their Pompano Beach winter home.
Concerned neighbors found their bloody bodies March 22 at 770 Birdie Lane in the Golf View Estates mobile home park. The reward poster says the couple was killed sometime between March 19 and 20.
The two were from Saint-Come-Liniere, about 60 miles southeast of Quebec City, and had been wintering in Pompano Beach for decades, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives have spent a lot of time at the crime scene but have not revealed much about the investigation.
The entrance to Golf View Estates at 901 NW 31st Ave. is located north of West Atlantic Boulevard and east of Florida’s Turnpike. Their mobile home was listed for sale since before the murders.
Neighbors said the couple spoke mostly French and were friendly with everyone. They had an adult son and daughter and grandchildren but their daughter died of cancer in February, neighbors said.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Wednesday said the investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been identified.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the case to call Detective Barbara Dyer at 954-321-4262.
Anonymous tips can be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 and online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
