Three people have been arrested after a failed armed robbery and a car chase in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
It started just before 6 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Sunshine Cathedral in the 1400 block of Southwest Ninth Street, investigators said.
Mike Michaelidis told WSVN-Ch.7 he had just gotten out of his BMW when a man in a red hoodie jacket started following him.
“He’s yelling, ‘Give me your keys! Give me your money!’” said Michaelidis. “I turned around, I saw his gun already drawn, he was cocking his gun, and I just booked.”
Surveillance video showed the robbery suspect turn and run back to a waiting Jaguar that sped away once he got in.
Officers started chasing the car until it crashed near George English Park, said police spokeswoman Casey Liening.
“The vehicle was pursued and the suspects ultimately bailed out on Sunrise Boulevard near Northeast 15th Avenue,” she said. “Three people were arrested.”
This is one of two robberies that police believe the suspects were involved in Friday, she said. The investigation continues.
