The morning he died, Frank Bryant was hit by a Mazda, a Honda and then a Buick, “all of which left the scene,” according to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Joy Oglesby.
Bryant, of Fort Lauderdale, was struck and killed while crossing the 1800 block of W. Oakland Park Boulevard shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Initially, investigators believed Bryant had been struck by just two cars but on Wednesday said that the driver of a 2000 to 2005 Buick LeSabre was also being sought in connection with his death.
Within hours of Saturday’s incident, detectives located the Lauderdale Lakes man who was driving the Honda Civic and he is cooperating with investigators, the sheriff’s office said.
Along with the LeSabre, detectives want to find the driver of a Mazda 6 which is also thought to have struck Bryant. The cars may have damage to the underside of the lower front bumpers, according to the sheriff’s office.
When he was hit, Bryant was crossing W. Oakland Park Boulevad — from north to south — in a designated crosswalk.
“For reasons that remain under investigation, the 54-year-old entered the eastbound lanes and then walked north where he stood near a median,” Oglesby said. That’s when he was struck the first time — by the Mazda that was heading west in the far left lane, according to investigators.
Detectives don’t think any of the cars that hit Bryant were speeding.
