Several tons of cocaine and marijuana that have been snatched from the international drug pipeline arrive at Port Everglades today in the latest show of enforcement by the Coast Guard.
The agency will be offloading about $14,000 pounds of marijuana and 3,660 pounds of cocaine from the Portsmith, Virginia-based Coast Guard Cutter Bear.
The drugs have a combined wholesale value of about $62.5 million, according to the Coast Guard.
The cocaine and marijuana represent five separate drug seizures involving two Coast Guard cutters and a Navy vessel off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America, officials said.
Along with various Coast Guard officials, U.S. Rep.Sean Patrick Maloney (D. N.Y.) is scheduled to observe the offloading. Maloney sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee which has jurisdiction over the Coast Guard — among other agencies and transportation-related areas.
