A cold front is expected to arrive in South Florida on Friday, bringing with it the potential for severe storms and strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.
“A few strong storms are possible with even an isolated severe storm not out of the question,” said a hazardous weather update issued by the National Weather Service Miami-South Florida forecast office on Thursday.
“The primary impacts will be gusty winds, lightning strikes, and locally heavy rainfall from the storms.”
Friday’s forecast for the Fort Lauderdale area calls for a chance of rain and thunderstorms before 2 pm.
The rest of the day and night will then see a good chance of rain and thunderstorms — 60 percent increasing to 80 percent from the afternoon through the night — with the wind potentially reaching gusts of about 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The low on Friday night will drop to a pleasant 67 F before warming back up to the low of around 80 on Saturday, with a 30 percent chance of rain in the early morning.
Saturday night was expected to be even cooler than Friday night with the low dropping into the low 60s.
Easter Sunday is forecast to very nice, as well — sunny with a high near 78.
