Pompano man heading for breakfast is shot and robbed at ATM

A Pompano Beach man was shot and robbed during an early morning visit to an ATM at a Bank of America branch, and a search is under way for the assailant, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.

Robbery detectives said they hope the public can help identify the shooter from the release of a surveillance photo of the man standing over the 67-year-old victim at the bank at 21 S. Pompano Parkway.

The victim was heading for breakfast and stopped to get money from the ATM at 5:19 a.m. The gunman demanded cash, which led to an argument. He then shot and robbed the man of money and his bicycle, according to a news release.

The victim managed to get to a nearby McDonald’s and summon help. He was hospitalized with injuries that were not life threatening. Witnesses told deputies that the shooter fled north toward Atlantic Boulevard.
