Local government elections are going smoothly, the Broward Supervisor of Elections Office reported Tuesday afternoon.
“Everything is going smooth. All our precincts opened on time and we’re just having a good Election Day,” said Mary Hall, chief deputy supervisor of elections
About 3 p.m., turnout in the seven municipalities was about 7 percent, Hall said.
Five cities have elections with candidates. Two have referendums that could result in higher taxes if voters approve borrowing.
The elections involve 217 voting precincts and 1,650 poll workers.
Altogether, Hall said the seven communities have about 439,000 registered voters.
About 52,000 vote-by-mail ballots were distributed. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 20,000 had been returned. About 32,000 ballots had been cast by about 3 p.m.
