The Winn-Dixie in Pompano Beach will be closing in March.
The store, at 3435 N. Federal Highway, will shut on or before March 25 because it has been under performing, according to Southeastern Grocers.
The company will later share details about liquidating merchandise before the closing.
“We have made the difficult decision to close this Winn-Dixie store,” Joe Caldwell, senior manager of corporate communications, said in a news release. “We do not take these decisions lightly, and only make this tough choice after careful consideration of its impact on our associates and our customers has been made.”
The company would not say how may employees would be affected. “Whenever possible, we attempt to place associates in other, nearby Southeastern Grocers positions,” Caldwell said.
“We are committed to ensuring all associates are treated with the dignity, respect and compassion they deserve. They were the first to know of this decision and have our dedicated support during this transition,” according to the release.
Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers, which operates Winn-Dixie, BI-LO, Fresco y Mas and Harveys Supermarket, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in March. It closed 94 stores, including six in South Florida. It emerged from bankruptcy in May after decreasing debt by $600 million, the company said.
The chain began converting some Winn-Dixies into Fresco y Mas markets in 2016. There are more than 20 stores in Miami catering to a Hispanic clientele.
Southeastern Grocers operates stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.
