Two former Lauderhill Police employees accused of theft, falsifying timecard records

Two former Lauderhill Police employees who worked in the Property and Evidence Division are facing grand theft charges after allegedly falsifying their timecard records to be paid for hours they had not worked, the police department said.

Demesha Moore, 43, was the manager of the division while Eunique Gibbons, 29, worked as a property and evidence coordinator, Sgt. Parys Thomas, a police department spokesperson, said in a news release. Both were booked into jail in Broward County this week.

Moore is accused of falsifying timecard records to receive more than $30,000 for 544 hours of work that she was not eligible for, while Gibbons is accused of inputting 162 hours into the payroll system to receive nearly $6,000, according to probable cause affidavits.

Gibbons and Moore, her supervisor, allegedly worked together at some points between January and August of 2024 by clocking each other in and out of the system. Moore did so for Gibbons 21 times when Gibbons wouldn’t arrive at work until hours later, according to the affidavit.

After Gibbons arrived at the police department and clocked in, she would stay in the women’s locker room for an hour, then go back to her car, the affidavit said. Some days she would leave, and others she would sit in her car. Gibbons on other instances allegedly would leave during her shift for extended periods of time but remain clocked in.

Moore routinely would arrive to work about 4 a.m., clock in, enter a secured area accessed by a key card, then leave through a back exit, the affidavit said. She would go back to her home or wait in her car for several hours.

Investigators found a total of 10 days where Moore clocked in and then never returned to the department, and Gibbons clocked her out on those days, the affidavit said. They found 21 other days where Moore would leave work without clocking out and stayed away for longer than an hour.

Moore is facing one count of grand theft of the second degree while Gibbons is facing one count of grand theft in the third degree. Gibbons has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and Moore has not yet entered any plea, court records show.

Both were fired from the police department in September 2024, Thomas said.
