A man climbed a seven-and-a-half-foot pole at a busy intersection in Miramar Monday morning and refused to come down for more than two hours.
The shirtless man’s actions prompted the Miramar police to respond to the incident at the intersection of Miramar Parkway and State Road 7. In September 2023, the same man climbed on top of an ambulance at the same intersection and refused to get down. He gained national attention when he danced and did push-ups on top of the Miramar Fire Rescue truck.
Miramar police said the pole-climber, identified as Todd Boothe, 33, is a repeat offender. Crisis negotiators worked to get him down and police took him into custody shortly after 11 a.m. TV crews captured Boothe alternating between squatting and standing on the pole. He also was seen waving to onlookers.
A similar standoff with Boothe also played out in 2021 after he climbed a traffic light post at a busy intersection in South Beach and sat on top of the light before he fled on foot. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence in that case.
