The Broward Housing Council issued its official annual report to the county this past week, celebrating the hundreds of units of affordable housing that are under construction or in development.
At six locations in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Hallandale Beach, developers are putting up a large number of units, 685 of them set aside as affordable workplace housing. Each of the developments received support from Broward over the last few years.
According to the Housing Council, the following are planned:
The Arcadian, located around Southwest Sixth Street and Seventh Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, is slated for completion this year. Of its 478 units, 100 are set aside for working families. A short walk away, work is underway at the Village of the Arts — with different phases slated for completion in 2026 and 2027. Planned are “162 multifamily units with 143 affordable housing units,” the council’s report sys.
Farther south, on Andrews Avenue and 21st Street, The Era Fort Lauderdale is scheduled for completion in 2027, offering 400 midrise units with more than half, 210, as affordable workplace housing units, the report says.
For units to be considered “affordable” by community development standards, they have to be within the budget of families with household incomes at or below the median for the county.
Two of the other three developments highlighted in the Broward Housing Council’s annual report are in Hollywood: The Tropic at 303 S. Federal Highway will offer 224 units for rent, half of which will be affordable, and the Guitar View at 5200 S. State Road 7 will have 80 of its 198 units set aside for affordable housing.
Finally, in Hallandale Beach, The Parks at Hallandale will set aside 40 of its 398 units for affordable housing when it finishes construction next year.
