Winderman’s view: Ill wind continues for Heat, in game paused as Tracy Morgan takes ill courtside | VIDEO

NEW YORK — Observations and other notes of interest from Monday night’s 116-95 loss to the New York Knicks:

– It was a typical night from a Heat perspective.

– Another loss, with the losing streak now at eight.

– Another loss to the Knicks, the six loss to New York in the team’s past seven meetings.

– Another game of mix-and-matchup lineups, when nothing mixed well or matched up.

– From a Madison Square Garden perspective, however, not typical.

– With comedian and actor Tracy Morgan wheeled off the court in a wheelchair after taking ill during the third quarter.

– The game was delayed 10 minutes at that point, with cleanup necessary.

– Following the game, the Knicks issued a statement that read, “We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him backcourt side.”

– Morgan, 56, has a serious medical history, including a traumatic brain injury in 2014 after a tractor-trailer struck his vehicle, putting him in a coma for two weeks.

– It was a scary moment . . .

–  And then, once time was back in . . .

– A Knicks 3-pointer.

– And so it has gone for Erik Spoelstra’s team.

– Can’t get a break.

– Even when there is a break.

– Before the game, Spoelstra continued to at least try to put the best face forward amid the recent struggles.

– “We have a lot more good things going on than bad things,” he said. “That’s what’s frustrating for everybody in our locker room. Can there be a tipping point? I always believe there can be a momentum shift.”

– He added, “But for us right now, we’re living in the present moment as much as we ever have. A win here against a quality opponent, more than anything that would just be for today and that would be a nice step.”

– Instead, another step back.

– With Andrew Wiggins out due to a leg contusion, the Heat opened with a lineup of Bam Adebayo, Haywood Highsmith, Jaime Jaquez, Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro.

– The Heat entered 2-2 with that lineup.

– It was the second time in three games Kel’el Ware was removed from the starting lineup.

– Having adjusted his lineups in recent games, particularly with Ware, depending on whether opponents go big, Spoelstra was asked pregame about the approach.

– “We have enough continuity right now,” he said. “If I have to make a change, I think our guys are fine with it. It’s, as we say, all hands on deck.”

– Davon Mitchell was first off the Heat bench.

– Ware would have entered at the same time, but Adebayo was at the line during that stoppage.

– Kyle Anderson then made it eight deep.

– With Terry Rozier fourth off the Heat bench.

– The Heat then tried to start the second period with a lineup of Ware, Anderson, Robinson, Mitchell and Rozier, with the Knicks immediately rallying.

– Of the Knicks being without Jalen Brunson, Spoelstra said pregame, “It’s a little bit more pace. But they’ve been defending. I think that’s the story right now, holding teams down every single night.”

– Since the trade of Jimmy Butler the Heat’s free-throw attempts have plummeted.

– “I think the big thing is in these fourth quarters it’s been down,” Spoelstra said. “There’s been periods of the game where we really are able to attack and we’re able to get to the free-throw line. We just have to be able to sustain it.”

– The Heat then attempted only four free throws in the first half.
